Generally, systems for air and water purification using unpowered charged sorbent mediums () which may include layered double hydroxide (LDH) () compositions, lignin (), and methods of sorbing inorganic or organic material(s) onto such mediums, including anionic contaminants (), cationic contaminants (), non-ionic organic contaminants (), and even biological agents () such as bacteria or viruses present in liquids or gases.
