Abstract

This invention is a system and method for managing replication of data distributed over one or more computer systems. The method includes the computer-executed steps of establishing one or more mirrored copies of data that are copies of one or more volumes of standard data (e.g. a database) on a first computer system. The mirrored copies of data are separated or split from the standard data. A map is created relating logical information to physical devices on the first computer system. Then a duplicate of the one or more mirrored copies of data is mounted on the second computer system by using the map to create another volume group on the second computer. It is substantially identical to the first volume group. The first and second computer may be integrally combined.
