A metadata database management system (), comprising a metadata database () and a knowledge manager (), for dynamically coupling to a database system (). The metadata database () provides a single knowledge repository for storing metadata assoicated with information sources (), that provide information that is processed by inbound information processors () for storage in the database system (); and metadata associated with information consumers (), that provide information retrieved from the database system (), and processed by the outbound information processors ().
