Abstract

A wheel assembly for a vehicle such as a tractor is disclosed. The assembly comprises a wheel rim () for supporting a tire, a nave plate () mounted to the rim, and a drive plate () mounted to an axle flange (). A torque ring () has first key ways () for cooperating with first keys () on nave plate (), and second key ways () for cooperating with second keys () on drive plate (). In this way, torque and radial and axial forces are transferred between the drive plate () and nave plate (), but radial or axial forces, tending to remove the assembly from the axle, and exceeding respective predetermined levels, are prevented from being transferred from the nave plate () to the axle.
