In the process CO and Hare contacted with the source of chromium in combination with the precipitated iron catalyst in a high temperature Fischer-Tropsch reaction. The invention also relates to the use of a source of chromium in the preparation of a precipitated iron catalyst for use in high temperature Fischer-Tropsch process and to a precipitated iron catalyst suitable for use in a high temperature Fischer-Tropsch process which contains a source of chromium.
