Abstract

A can opener () has two pivotal handles (and), a traction wheel () and a cutter blade () movable by respective handles (and) for cutting open a can, and a pivotable lever (). There is a ratchet assembly () driven by the lever () upon reciprocation for operating the traction wheel () and cutter blade (), which has a ratchet wheel () connected with the traction wheel () and a spring-loaded pawl () movable by the lever () for turning the ratchet wheel () in a driving direction (D) upon reciprocation of the lever (). The pawl () has front and rear ends (and) taken in the driving direction (D), with the front end () in engagement with the lever () and the rear end () engageable with the ratchet wheel () for turning the same.
