Abstract

Data processing can be performed even if a trouble occurs in a hard disk device. If a trouble occurs in a first hard disk device, it is recognized that a spare hard disk device is on standby, and operation of the spare device is checked. The first hard disk device is switched with the spare hard disk device, the data is processed and output. During this process, the first hard disk device is initialized. When the first hard disk device becomes available, the spare hard disk device is switched with the first hard disk device. If the first hard disk device is unavailable, an error is notified to an administrator to request repair or replacement.
