Abstract
A graphical user interface is disclosed. The interface includes an active document that has been created or opened by a user. The interface also includes a plurality of data display components that are displayed simultaneously with the active document. A user illustratively utilizes tools associated with an application to create an edit content within the document. The display components each contain an indication of data that is automatically selected based on a calculated assumption of contextual relevance to the user that is working with the active document. The individual items within each display component may be selected and listed in a ranked order based on an automatically computed determination of what is most likely to be of interest to the user. The content of the data display components may be automatically selected based on people-to-document, people-to-people and/or document-to-document associations. Such associations may be determined based on a process of removing content from one document and pasting it in to another document.
