Abstract

The invention relates to a method, device and a circuit for detecting surface defects such as cracks, fractures and the like on a roller () for a rolling mill (), in particular on the working rollers () which are mounted with support roller () on a vertical stand (). The rollers () are verified for detecting defects in the operation position thereof, transversal ultrasonic waves () whose frequency is approximately equal to 0.5-2 MHz are transmitted to the first end of the roller () and are received on the second end () thereof and during a measuring process an ultrasound transducer () and an ultrasound receiver () are pressed against the cylinder () surface for a test time.
