Abstract

An image scanner and image scanning method to reliably image scanned media in an image scanning apparatus with consistent quality. The image scanning apparatus may be included within a printerfor printing to the medium. The image scanning apparatus comprises a transportation mechanism for transporting a card C along a transportation pathfrom an insertion openingand an image sensorto image the card on the transportation path. Guide wallsguide the card C into alignment with the transportation path. The transportation mechanism conveys the card C in a forward direction toward the image sensorto a specified indexing position, and then in reverse toward the insertion opening. The image sensorimages the card C as the card C is transported in reverse from the indexing position. The card C is then discharged from the card insertion opening
