A heat exchanger heat transfer element basket assembly () for receiving heat transfer element plates () therein. The heat exchanger heat transfer element basket assembly () includes first and second one-piece side straps (), a pair of inboard corner flanges (), an I-shaped splitter plate (), a pair of outboard corner flanges (), first and second end straps (), and a cap. Each of the first and second one-piece side straps () includes a center portion (), a first extension (), and a second extension ().
