Abstract

A printer ejects ink droplets continuously onto the left edge of an endless belt while the endless belt is rotating, stops the endless belt, detects the positions of the ink droplets on the endless belt, and thereby detects meandering of printing paper (Step S). This makes it possible to prevent distortion of printed images caused by meandering of the printing paper based on the detected meandering, allowing information to be printed on an entire printing surface of the printing paper unlike, for example, a conventional method which prints register marks on printing paper, checks for meandering of the register marks, and thereby detects meandering of the printing paper.
