Abstract
An optical recording medium and a method for recording information are provided. The optical recording medium having a user area and a spare area, includes a control information stored on a particular area of the optical recording medium, wherein the control information includes an initial recording capacity information stored on a particular area of the optical recording medium, wherein the initial recording capacity information pertains to the user area of the optical recording medium, and the initial recording capacity information is varied based upon at least one of an assignment or expansion of the spare area for defect management, the spare area being assigned to an inner area and/or an outer area of the optical recording medium, or being expanded toward an inner direction from the outer area, and wherein the stored recording capacity information is updated to correspond to the varied recording capacity when the initial recording capacity is varied.
