Abstract

The present invention provides a circularly polarizing plate comprising a polarizer and an optical layer having a value 5 of Nshown by the following equation (1), wherein the circularly polarizing plate comprises a birefringent body satisfying N<0 between the polarizer and a retarder satisfying N>0. N=(n−n)/(n−n)(1), where nand ndesignates main refractive indexes in a plane to light having a wavelength of 550 nm and satisfy n≧n, and ndesignates a main refractive index in a thickness direction to the light having the wavelength of 550 nm.
