When a backlightis turned on in a dark environment, white light emerging from the surface of a light guide platepasses through a polarizerand a retardation filmenters the interior of the liquid crystal cell, passes through openings of reflective electrodesand is introduced into a liquid crystal layerThe light introduced into the liquid crystal layerpasses through a color filteremerges from the liquid crystal cell, and passes through the retardation filmand the polarizertowards the exterior. In a lighted environment, the light incident on the polarizerpasses through the liquid crystal layeris reflected by the reflective electrodeand passes through the polarizeragain and is emitted towards the exterior.
