Abstract

The present invention relates to the isolation, purification, sequencing, and functional characterization of the class I and II terpene sequences OsCPS1, OsCPS2, OsCPS4, and OsDTS2. Transcriptional control of OsCPS1provides a means of regulating production of gibberellin phytohormone, while transcriptional control of OsCPS2, OsDTS2, and OsCPS4provides a means of regulating defensive phytochemical biosynthesis. Further, these enzymatic genes offers a means by which terpenoid production may be more generally modulated, specifically including genetic engineering, as well as ex vivo uses.
