Abstract
A transmitter () emits a single wavelength optical signal and transmits this as a wavelength channel () in a compound multiplex signal through the WDM network. The receiver () selects the single wavelength optical signal () from the compound multiplex signal using a band-pass filter. A wavelength fit detector () determines a feedback signal by correlating variations of the amplitude of the received signal with variations of the traffic density. This feedback signal is then returned to the transmitter () via a back channel () and serves to tune the wavelength of the single wavelength optical signal.
