A support structure which can hold an image reading apparatus in a vertically placed condition is provided. On a bottom portion of an apparatus main bodyin such a horizontally placed condition that a document table glassis installed nearly horizontally, a storage portionfor storing the support structure is provided, and support structuresare released from the storage portion and get into around the side of a document coverand a hinge, from the bottom portion, and holds the apparatus main bodyin a vertically placed condition.
