Abstract
A hand-operated cable winch () has a proximal handle part () with a pawl () that engages a toothed gear () which causes rotation of a cable () onto a drum. A distal handle part () is rotatably disposed between ends () of said proximal part by a pivot (). A retaining sleeve () slides over a spring latch (), depressing it toward the distal part () as it slides by it. When the distal part () is rotated into working alignment with the distal part (), a retaining sleeve () may slide proximally, depressing a spring latch () and sliding over it, into a locked position, which thereafter prevents the retaining sleeve from moving so that the winch may be operated by means of the distal handle part (). To fold the handle, the operator depresses the spring latch (), slides the retaining sleeve () distally to its inoperative position on the distal part, and rotates the distal part into a folded position.
