A liquid crystal composition including a compound of formula (1), a compound of formula (2), a compound of formula (3), and a compound of formula (4): wherein Rand Rare independently an alkyl group; Ris an alkyl or alkenyl group; Yis fluorine or —OCF; Yis an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, fluorine, chlorine, or —OCF; Xis hydrogen or fluorine; Ais 1,4-cyclohexylene or 1,4-phenylene; Ais 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene or 2,6-difluoro-1,4-phenylene; Zis a single bond or —(CH)—; Zis a single bond, —(CH)—, —COO—, or —CFO—; and Zis a single bond or —COO—.
