Abstract

A medication delivery system that includes a housing and a reservoir fitted to the housing for storing the medication. A pump for delivering the medication is attached to the housing. Valves regulate fluid flow into and out of the pump. The valves are configured so that when fluid flows into the pump, flow out of the pump is blocked and, when flow into the pump is blocked, fluid can flow out of the pump. A port in communication with the reservoir serves as the conduit through which sterilization fluid is introduced into the reservoir and the pump. An actuator is attached to the housing. The actuator engages the valves to simultaneously hold both valves open. Thus, during sterilization, sterilization fluid simultaneously flows through into and out of the pump.
