Abstract

A method and apparatus for reducing peak transmitter power includes providing a set of orthogonal communication codes for a telecommunications system that includes a set of active user codes and a set of inactive user codes (). A communication signal is generated from the set of active user codes (). The peak-to-average power ratio of the communication signal is reduced by performing a peak cancellation function on the communication signal that minimizes energy distribution at least one of the set of active user codes and the set of inactive user codes ().
