Abstract

A steam turbine () having an inner casing (), in which a rotor () that can rotate about an axis () is arranged, a steam passage () being formed between the rotor () and the inner casing (), in which steam passage there is a multi-stage arrangement of guide vanes () secured to the inner casing () and rotor blades () secured to the rotor (), in which arrangement hot steam coming from an inlet () undergoes work-performing expansion. In a steam turbine of this type, the thermal loading of the rotor and/or inner casing, in particular when starting up, is reduced by virtue of the fact that at least in the steam passage () plate-like protective shields (), which protect the surface of the rotor () or inner casing () beneath them from the direct action of the hot steam flowing through the steam passage (), are arranged parallel and close to the surface of the rotor () and/or parallel and close to the inner surface of the inner casing ().
