Abstract

A method for diagnosing a turbocharger () includes disconnecting the compressor outlet conduit () so that the engine () is naturally aspirated and using the engine to drive the turbine () of the turbocharger. The compressor outlet conduit () has a restriction () to create a backpressure which is measured along with the inlet pressure, barometric pressure and ambient temperature. The flow rate is determined and compared to acceptable parameters from a map data provided by a turbocharger manufacturer to diagnose if the turbocharger is operating within the acceptable parameters.
