Abstract

A device and method for monitoring the application of a motor vehicle automatic parking brake by measuring a physical property (either resistivity or electrical conductivity) of a friction lining () of a brake pad () throgh a measurement apparatus () electrically connected to the friction lining and comparing the values measured during and after the application of the automatic parking brake with values prerecorded in memory to identify the position of the parking brake.
