Abstract

A gas spring () comprises a piston rod () projecting from an open end of a cylinder () so as to be able to elongate and contract axially, and a dust seal () which is in contact with the piston rod () to prevent dust from invading the cylinder (). By fitting a seal protecting member () to the open end of the cylinder () to shield the dust seal () from exposure to the outside of the cylinder (), protection of the dust seal () from deterioration and damage is enhanced.
