Abstract

The invention relates to a method and a device for winding a band into a coil on a chuck driven into rotation around its axis, by means of a winding assembly including a roll () for applying the band (), by an internal face (), to the chuck () means () for pushing the roll () towards the chuck () and a bending plate () having a curved face () for guiding the band () along the external face () of the chuck (). According to the invention, the application roll () is mounted rotatably on a mobile supporting chassis () whereon rests at least one hydraulic jack () forming a thrust means capable of exerting an adjustable pinching load of the band () between the chuck and the application roll () and the supporting chassis () carries, immediately upstream of the application roll (), an additional roll () whereon the band () may rest, taking into account a predictable bending effect () upstream of the application roll (), said application () and additional () rolls being driven into rotation so as to exert to the external face () of the band () a driving effect by friction which is added to the effect exerted by the chuck to the internal face ().
