Abstract
A pivot and detent mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes: a basefor mounting on a vehicle; an armfor supporting a mirror head, the armpivotally connected to the baseto allow angular movement of the head, the arm having spaced apart first and second flexible branchesand'; and a deploy detent recess and a cooperating detent memberset, the deploy detent memberengageable with the detent recess to hold the mirror headwith respect to the basein a deployed position. The flexible branchesand′ are resiliently movable with respect to each other to allow disengagement and engagement of the deploy detent memberfrom the detent recess upon the application of sufficient force to the mirror headallowing the headto move from the deployed position to a non-deployed position. An improved pre-loaded spring is also disclosed.
