Abstract
A system () and method for remotely monitoring and controlling time variant data in an industrial plant (). The system () includes a local server () and at least one remote server (). The local server () includes a local server cache (), a local controller (), and a local operator station (). Each remote server () includes a remote server cache () and a remote controller (). Wherein the local server cache () stores a plurality of data units (), and the local controller () provides updated units () to the local server cache (). Each remote server cache () stores a plurality of data units (), and each remote controller () provides updated data units () to its corresponding remote server cache (). The method operates such that each cache () buffers controllers () and other servers () from unnecessary data requesting transactions, minimizing the data traffic in the system (). A communication network hardware in the form of a Wide Area Network (WAN) () interconnecting all the servers (), and a unique data point identifier () associated with the at least one remote server () are also disclosed.
