Abstract
To further isolate the scattered lightof a specific particle from the scattered light of a different particle, a pin hole devicecan be used. The pin hole deviceprevents unfocused light from other particles from entering the second plane, thus isolating a desired, focused image of one particleof the sample. In one embodiment, the pin holehas a size of several microns. At the second plane, a traditional imaging detection devicedetects the defocused light. The position of the second image planeis chosen for good angular resolution of the scattered light, and at the same time gives enough light for the imaging detection deviceto obtain a sufficient reading.
