Abstract

A method () and radio frequency amplifier circuit () for adjusting a gain setting of a power amplifier () and a gain setting of a power amplifier driver () that form part of the radio frequency amplifier circuit (). The method () includes selecting () a power output value for the power amplifier and an associated constant envelope modulated radio frequency signal supplied by the power amplifier driver () to the power amplifier () and then sensing variations () in a power output value of the power amplifier (). Next there is performed adjusting () both the gain setting of the power amplifier () and adjusting the gain setting of the power amplifier driver () in response to the sensing so that the constant envelope modulated signal is within a linear operating region of the power amplifier (). The gain settings of the power amplifier () and power amplifier driver () are concurrently adjusted until the power output value for the power amplifier is achieved.
