Abstract

A foot-operated parking brake device for vehicles is provided with a shock absorbing memberon which a predetermined portion, e.g., an engaging claw, except for a pole abutting portionof a poleis brought into abutting when a pedal armis moved from an original position to an abutting position where the engaging clawof the poleis brought into abutting on ratchet teeth. An abutting surfaceof the shock absorbing memberis formed to bring a lock mechanisminto the first state at least before the pedal armreaches the abutting position and to form a space between the pole abutting portionand a release lever abutting portionuntil the lock mechanismis brought into the first state. Thus, immediately before the pole abutting portionand the release lever abutting portionare brought into collision by being pivoted by the urging force of a spring, the pivot movement of the pole is restrained, so that the pole abutting portionand the release lever abutting portioncan be prevented from generating a collision noise.
