A system and method for reducing the transmission delay of messages sent through a network from a source mobile unit () to a destination mobile unit (). Portions of a data message are received (). The portions of the data message are decoded () and a type of the data message is determined from the decoded portions. Before the entire data message has been received, processing and service actions are performed as a result of receiving the data message () based at least in part upon the type of the data message.
