Abstract

A process for the production of triptane, comprises: providing a hydrocarbon feedstock comprising at least 1 vol % of at least one cyclic hydrocarbon comprising a Cand/or Cring; pre-treating the hydrocarbon feedstock by contacting the hydrocarbon feedstock with a catalyst in the presence of hydrogen, under conditions suitable for selectively opening the ring of the cyclic hydrocarbon; and isomerising the pre-treated feedstock by contacting the pre-treated feedstock with an isomerisation catalyst to produce a triptane-containing product stream.
