Abstract

A refrigerant distribution devicesituated in an inlet headerof a multiple tube heat exchangerof a refrigeration system. The deviceincludes an inlet passagethat is in communication with an expansion device. Small diameter conduitsare disposed within the inlet headerand are in fluid communication with the inlet passage. A two-phase refrigerant fluid in the inlet passagehas a refrigerant liquid-vapor interface. The conduitshave inlet portsthat lie below the refrigerant liquid-vapor interface. Vapor emerging from the nozzlescreate a homogeneous refrigerant that is uniformly delivered to the multiple tubes. The invention also includes a method for delivering a uniform distribution of a homogeneous liquid mixture of liquid and vaporous refrigerant through the heat exchanger tubes.
