A phacoemulsification needle sleeveincludes an elongated, resilient tubular body portionhaving a distal end. An enlarged sectionis formed on a proximal end of the body portionfor surrounding a hub of a needle. The distal endis formed to abut a proximal endof a flared endof the needle. An outer diameter of the body portionis essentially equal to an outer diameter of the flared endso that the sleeveis easily inserted through an incisionin a patient's eye.
