Abstract

In a stratified-scavenging two-stroke internal combustion engine, air-fuel mixture outlets () and air outlets () are provided on either side of a cylinder (), and the air-fuel mixture outlets () and the air outlets () communicate with a crank chamber () via air-fuel mixture passageways () and air passageways (). The crank chamber () is charged with air from an air-feeding port (). An inlet port () is disposed on either side of the air-feeding port (), and mixture (M) from each inlet port () is charged into the air-fuel mixture passageways () via air-fuel mixture introduction recesses () formed in the outer surface of a piston (). The air outlets () are positioned nearer to the exhaust port (), while the air-fuel mixture outlets () are positioned nearer to the inlet ports (). In the exhaust stroke, the cylinder chamber () is scavenged via air (A) supplied from the crank chamber () through the air outlets () and interposed between the combustion gas (E) in the cylinder chamber () and the mixture (M) from the air-fuel mixture outlets ().
