Abstract

A composition comprising a thermoplastic and a COreleasing material; wherein the COreleasing material comprises: a) a carbon and oxygen containing salt of an alkali or alkaline earth metal; and b) an acid; the COreleasing material has a sufficient amount and ratio of the carbon and oxygen containing salt of the alkali or alkaline earth metal and the acid so that, in the presence of water, the COreleasing material reacts to release COgas through the thermoplastic into a surrounding environment.
