Focused beam () from illumination unit () is transmitted through first side () of transparent passageway () and incident upon rod () within transparent passageway (). Illuminating volumetric segment () of rod () by incident beam (), such that incident beam () is affected by and transmitted through volumetric segment () and transmitted through second side () of transparent passageway (), for forming rod material transmitted beam (). Detecting transmitted beam () by detection unit (), for forming rod material volumetric segment transmitted beam useable for determining internal properties and characteristics of rod of material ().
