Abstract

Apparatus for converting a flexible linerincluding a layerof composite material comprising thermoplastics material and reinforcing fibres, into a structural member within a ducthas a front portionfor insertion in the linera central portionfor heating one side of the layerand a rear portionwhich forces the heated layeragainst the ductfor consolidation and cooling under pressure. The central portionhas heating meansproducing hot gas which is forced under pressure through the layerof composite material to heat the layerand provides an air gapon the opposite side of the layerwhile heating takes place. This ensures uniform heating of the layerto melt the thermoplastics material which then mixes intimately with the reinforcing fibres, and is consolidated and cooled to form the structural member.
