Abstract
A biometric key () having a body or housing () incorporating a biometric sensor () uses a plurality of contacts () enabling the key to gain access to a facility. There is also provided a receptor () for receiving the biometric key (), wherein the biometric key () and receptor () have contacts () and mating contacts (), respectively, for communicating. The biometric key () can communicate biometric data acquired from a key operator to the receptor (). The biometric key () can communicate with the receptor () when received in a first orientation and also when received in a second orientation where the contacts () are inverted from the first orientation.
