Abstract

A motion-picture distributor () uses a computer system () to convert video signals from a master film () into serial video data () complying with DVD-Video standards. Further, the computer system () modifies the sequence of scene-data sets (--, . . . ) constituting the data () and encrypts the data for each scene-data set, thus producing encrypted non-serial video data (). The data () are separated into DVD-ROMs (--, . . . ), for distribution purposes. A theater () then uses a serialization apparatus () to read the data () from the DVD-ROMs (--, . . . ), and sorts the scene-data sets in a correct sequence, thus producing encrypted serial video data (). A motion picture projector () decrypts the data (), thereby preparing the data (). The data () are played back to view a movie. On the other hand, a movie distributor () may distribute the DVD-ROMs in a separated manner.
