Abstract

A color filterhas a light-transmissive substrate, a reflecting layerformed on the back substrateand provided with openings, boundary layersandformed on the reflecting layer, and a plurality of coloring layersenclosed by the boundary layersand. A transparent coat layeris provided between the reflecting layerand the boundary layersand. A step is formed between the openingsand the transparent coat layer. The coloring layersare formed by applying the dropletsof colored fluid to the openingsfirst, and then to the transparent coat layer. The difference in color saturation of the color filterin a reflective display mode and a transmissive display mode is reduced. Also, a liquid material is appropriately applied to the color filter, to enhance color balance.
