Abstract
The present invention provides a glass composition suitable for producing a poling effect. This glass composition includes 0.001 to 0.5 mol % of univalent metal ions in terms of oxide thereof, 0.1 to 40 mol % of AlO, and 0 to 15 mol % of BO, and a ratio of the number of moles of AlOto a sum of moles of oxide in terms of which the univalent metal ions is expressed is at least 1.0. As the univalent metal ions are suitable Li, Na, K, Cs, Ag, Cu, and Au.
