A phosphorus-containing epoxy resin has a structural unit derived from a secondary phosphine derivative represented by the following formula: wherein Rrepresents an alkylene group that may have a substituent, Rrepresents a cycloalkylene or arylene group that may have a substituent, and X represents an oxygen or sulfur atom.
