Abstract
A system () for attaching a trailing device () to a vehicle includes a bumper assembly () having a back structure () which carries an energy absorbing module (). The system () includes receiver assemblies () which are attached to the bumper back structure () and which include a tube (). The system () also includes carrier assemblies () which carry the trailing device () and which each includes an arm end () slidably received in the tubes (). Shear pins () attach the arm ends () to the tubes () and upon impact to the trailing device (), a leg () of each pin () can be sheared allowing relative movement between the arm ends () and the tubes (). As a result, the carrier assemblies () contact the energy absorbing bumper module () to absorb some of the energy of the impact. As the arm ends () begin to move in the other direction through tubes (), by virtue of the rebound effect of the energy absorbing module (), another leg () of each pin () engages the tube () to stop the rebounding movement.
