Abstract

A polyol monomer comprising the formula: Ris aliphatic or aromatic, Ris aliphatic, aromatic, ester, ether, or acrylic, and Rcontains a hydroxyl group, Rcontains —O—CH—CH(OH)—, or both. Ris not a Cor larger linear, unsubstituted aliphatic when Ris a residue of a bisphenol. The polyol monomer may be made by reacting an epoxy and an alcohol. Either the epoxy contains more than one epoxide groups, the alcohol is a polyol, or both. A thermoset made by reacting the polyol monomer with a polyisocyanate.
