Abstract

A shaft seal mechanism (leaf seal) by which a desired seal performance can be stably obtained is provided. The shaft seal mechanism comprises a concave grooveformed larger than a minimum size of a plate width of thin platesand a fitting piecefitted in a gap between the concave grooveand a leaf seal. The leaf sealcomprises an annular thin plate assemblyA constructed by the thin platesand a plate springintegrally formed therewith supporting the annular thin plate assemblyA to be levitated coaxially with a rotating shaft. The thin plateshave their outer circumferential proximal end side made movable relative to the concave groove. A shaft seal mechanism assembling structure is also provided comprising a pressure receiving surfaceand a lower pressure side plateforming a predetermined gap size between the pressure receiving surfaceand one side edges of the thin plates
