Abstract

An automotive in-cabin audio system comprising a plurality of speakers installed at different positions in the cabin is disclosed, in which the playback signal from a multichannel player having sources of at least three channels recorded therein is processed in accordance with the position of a listener seated in the cabin thereby to reproduce a sound similar to the original sound at the position of the listener. The signal of the sound reproduced from a speaker far from each seat in the cabin is retrieved as a branch signal and delayed in accordance with the law of the first wave front. At the same time, the level of the particular signal is attenuated to produce a processed sound signal, which is added to the signal of the sound reproduced from the speaker near each seat. As a result, a sound similar to the original sound can be heard at any hearing position in the cabin.
