Abstract
A method of controlling the performance of a radio link between a base transceiver station and a radio terminal for a wireless transmission system is provided. A radio network controller (RNC) monitors a directly observable L-parameter, and determines a without explicit L-Lsignaling a threshold violation by the L-parameter for accordingly triggering a status change of the radio link. Namely, a L-radio resource management algorithm prompts the radio terminal and the RNC to perform a radio resource management action whenever the L-parameter violates a L-threshold. Such an action could be directly downgrading or upgrading the transmission rate on the radio link, or a radio link reconfiguration. The L-parameter may be the radio block error rate r, and the L-parameter may be the PDU retransmission rate R.
